Israel opens fire on Gazan scavengers

On Sunday, the Israeli military shot and wounded four Palestinians, including a 15-year-old, in the town of Beit Hanun in the north of the coastal sliver, AFP reported.
"The troops fired towards their lower bodies and identified several hits," a spokesman for the military said about the incident.

The scavengers, including women and children, sell the materials that they glean from the remnants of Israeli settlements to contractors and factories in Gaza as a coping strategy against Tel Aviv's blockade on the enclave.
The all-out land, aerial and naval restrictions have been depriving 1.5 million Gazans of food, fuel and other necessities for more than three years now.
Tel Aviv has, however, declared a "restricted" zone in the border area, occasionally opening fire on the debris collectors.
