Mel Smith remembered: 'A gentleman and a scholar, a gambler and a wit'
Mel Smith, the British comedian, writer, actor, producer and film director, known for his long and popular television partnership with Griff Rhys Jones, died on Friday at the age of 60. He suffered a heart attack at his London home.
Smith's deadpan style, along with his lugubrious manner and large build, quickly established him as one of the favourite television performers in the early 1980s.

Jean Giraud (Moebius) is Dead
One of France’s best-known cartoonist and comic book creators, Jean Giraud, has died aged-73 in Paris after a long-illness. Giraud was the creator of the hugely popular character Lieutenant Blueberry for a Western series of the same name. (RFI)
Jean Giraud (born 8 May 1938; died 10 March 2012) was a French comics artist. Giraud has earned worldwide fame, not only under his own name but also under the pseudonym Mœbius, and to a lesser extent Gir, the latter appearing mostly in the form of a boxed signature at the bottom of the artist's paintings.
