Carlos The Jackal On Trial Over France Bomb Attacks 30 Years Ago

Carlos the Jackal is going on trial later accused of masterminding a series of terrorist acts in France nearly three decades ago. Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, 62, has been in prison since 1994 after being convicted of the 1975 killing of two French secret service agents and their Lebanese informant. He will be tried in connection with four bomb attacks that killed 11 people and wounded almost 200 in France in 1982 and 1983.

Venezuelan-born Ramirez's lawyers say there is no evidence he played a role in the bombings. Although French prosecutors have charged three other suspects in the bombing cases, Ramirez will be the only defendant in court during the six-week trial. Sky News
