An Egyptian citizen was killed when a US navy-contracted ship fired warning shots at approaching motor boats in the Suez Canal, a statement from the US embassy in Cairo has said.
The individual died on Monday after the Global Patriot opened fire on the boats after issuing verbal warnings for them to alter their course, the statement said.
"It appears that an Egyptian in the boat was killed by one of the warning shots," the embassy statement said on Wednesday.
The embassy and the US navy said that there were no casualties on board the Global Patriot according to the security team aboard the ship.
