Satan's footprints spotted in Devon
A baffled gran told last night how she discovered the Devil’s footprints — in sleepy Devon. The hoof-like marks were a chilling echo of a phenomenon first recorded in 1855 — and Jill Wade now hopes to solve the ancient mystery.
Pensioner Jill woke to find the marks in fresh snow in her back garden in Woolsery. She said: “I couldn’t believe it — the footprints were in the shape of a cloven hoof. There were no other marks at all in the snow. I’d love to know what it was.”
Scientists from the Centre for Fortean Zoology inspected the prints, which were 5ins long with a stride of between 11 and 17ins. The prints matched a mysterious 100-mile trail that was found in Devon 154 years ago and blamed on Satan. The Sun

The fact that William-Alexander — prince of Orange-Nassau and heir to the throne of the Netherlands — accompanied his mother Beatrix to the latest Bilderberg conference in Chantilly, Virginia, is a sure sign that it will not be many years before he follows in his mother’s footsteps.
Already a favourite topic of gossip magazines as well as self-proclaimed ‘serious’ newspapers, speculation reached its climax in the last couple of months with suspicions mounting that the ascendance of William IV (as the prince’s regal name will be) is at hand. It is interesting to note that the last William (III) to head the Dutch monarchy was the most meritorious slave trader of his day. Despite all the fuss, the conclusion thus far is that nothing is certain. The only one having a say about the whole ordeal is the queen and she is notoriously tight-lipped about the coming transition- as she is about her many other dealings.
While the Dutch media keeps itself busy with chattering about the possible date of succession, nothing stirs around the royal palace. To join in the never-ending succession-to-the-throne-chorus, I should say it will be sooner rather than later- for a maiden visit to Bilderberg more often than not tends to prelude a future coronation. Different media outlets have meanwhile proven to be busy little bees when it comes to mindless gossip, but strangely silent in regards to the frequent trips by the Oranges to key globalist meetings.

Blue Ducks likely to die out in UK after male birds get together
Keepers at a bird sanctuary in West Sussex hoped that the last remaining female Blue Duck in the country - called Cherry - might mate with either of the drakes, Ben or Jerry.
But neither male duck appeared interested and are now inseparable at the Arundel Wetland Centre, leaving Cherry to her own devices.
Centre warden Paul Stevens said he was disappointed that efforts to produce new Blue Duck offspring had failed but said the two male birds made "a lovely couple".
"They stay together all the time, parading up and down their enclosure and whistling to each other as a male might do with a female he wants to mate with," he said.

Western military forces turning inward in anticipation of domestic unrest
As the growing world-wide economic crisis deepens, military forces from Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom are preparing to meet angry citizens on the street. The economic crisis - and the public outrage it is causing - is at the forefront of intelligence agencies and military forces in the western world.
Prominent trends forecaster Gerald Celente has been sounding the alarm for years, warning that riots and tax revolts are coming to America. The Pentagon, U. K. Ministry of Defense, and Canadian military apparently agree. In November of 2008 the United States Army War College released the report Known Unknowns: Unconventional "Strategic Shocks" in Defense Strategy Development. The report identifies economic collapse as a reason for the defense establishment to conduct domestic operations. The report states,
"Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security. Deliberate employment of weapons of mass destruction or other catastrophic capabilities, unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency..."
The CIA and MI5 are both watching the economic situation for signs of unrest and political instability. As the Washington Post reports, the CIA has added an economic situation report to its threat assessment for the White House. A further sign that the United States government is anticipating widespread unrest comes with the domestic stationing of the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division. Dalai Lama: China Has Created 'Hell on Earth' in Tibet
China has overseen a "brutal crackdown" in Tibet since protests shook the Himalayan region last year, part of decades of Chinese oppression that have driven Tibetan culture to the verge of extinction, the Dalai Lama said Tuesday.
The Tibetan spiritual leader made the comments in a speech to mark the 50th anniversary of the failed uprising that sent him into exile.
"Even today, Tibetans in Tibet live in constant fear, and the Chinese authorities remain constantly suspicious of them," the Dalai Lama said in this Indian hill town, where he and the self-proclaimed government-in-exile have been based since shortly after fleeing their homeland.
Bolivia expels US diplomat
Evo Morales, Bolivia's president, has ordered a senior US diplomat to leave the country, accusing him of siding with opposition groups in a "conspiracy" against the government in La Paz.
Francisco Martinez, the second secretary of the US embassy in La Paz, is the second US diplomat to be expelled from the country in six months. Morales said on Monday that Martinez must be expelled "to put an end to a foreign conspiracy".
"Today, I've decided to declare Francisco Martinez ... who works for the United States embassy, persona non grata," he said at a news conference in La Paz.
Morales said that "deep investigations" had determined Martinez "was in permanent contact with opposition groups".
The US state department called the move "unwarranted and unjustified". "We reject the allegations," it said in a statement.
Last week, the Bolivian president publicly accused Martinez of "co-ordinating contacts" with a Bolivian police officer he accused of infiltrating the state oil company on behalf of the CIA. Washington said that Morales's accusations of CIA infiltration in the country's affair were baseless and accused him of using the US as a scapegoat in domestic politics.

Britain condoned torture, UN finds
Britain is condemned today in a highly critical UN report for breaching basic human rights and "trying to conceal illegal acts" in the fight against terrorism.
The report is sharply critical of British co-operation in the transfer of detainees to places where they are likely to be tortured as part of the US rendition programme. It accuses British intelligence officers of interviewing detainees held incommunicado in Pakistan in "so-called safe houses where they were being tortured".
It adds that Britain, and a number of other countries, sent interrogators to Guantánamo Bay in a further example of what "can be reasonably understood as implicitly condoning" torture and ill-treatment. It said the US was able to create its system for moving terror suspects around foreign jails only with the support of its allies.
Some individuals faced "prolonged and secret detention" and practices that breached bans on torture and other forms of ill-treatment, the report says.
It highlights concerns about "the increasing use of state secrecy provisions" and accuses the UK, along with the US, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania and the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia, of concealing "illegal acts from oversight bodies or judicial authorities".
The report says information that is inaccurate and wrongly recorded can lead to innocent people being identified as terrorist threats, referring to Bisher al-Rawi, a British resident seized in Gambia after MI5 tipped off the CIA.

Russian Scholars: Stalin Planned Ukraine Genocide
Russia has issued the first of three volumes of documents on the Soviet Union’s catastrophic famine of the early 1930s. Russian officials claim the widespread starvation was the result misguided Kremlin policies, but in Ukraine the famine is considered an act of genocide (the Holodomor or death by starvation).
The scholars’ conclusion is consistent with the Kremlin’s position the famine was not limited to Ukraine and that its victims, mostly peasants and landowners, were targeted not because of their nationality, but rather their social class.
The United Nations defines genocide as acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. There is no mention of class.
Historians say Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered the confiscation of grain in fertile regions of Russia, Kazakhstan, the northern Caucasus and Ukraine not only to break widespread opposition to collectivization, but also to increase grain exports to buy weapons and fund industrialization. Russian historian Viktor Kondrashyn says famine was the result of misguided policies.
Ukraine’s National Memory Institute deputy director, historian Vladyslav Verstiuk, categorically rejects Kondrashyn’s claims. He points to a message Stalin delivered in January 1933, in which the dictator issued a threat specifically to Ukrainian peasants, “give us your grain, or you will be punished.”
In Ukraine, the famine is known as the Holodomor or death by starvation, and is considered an act of genocide.

People in North Korea are voting in parliamentary elections that observers say could give a clue to the country's eventual succession. The elections to the Supreme People's Assembly are always a formality, with each candidate elected unopposed. But for the first time, one of leader Kim Jong-il's sons - Kim Jong-un - is rumoured to be on the ballot.
South Antrim Brigade Of Real IRA Claims Attack
The Real IRA has said it carried out the shooting at an army barracks in Northern Ireland in which two British soldiers were killed, a newspaper says.
The Sunday Tribune in Dublin said it had been given a recognised codeword during a phone call from the group's 'South Antrim Brigade'.
The paper said: "The caller said he made no apologies for targeting British soldiers while they continued to occupy Ireland and also said he made no apologies for targeting the pizza delivery men who, he said, were collaborating with the British by servicing them."
Two British soldiers were shot dead in the attack in front of the main gates of the Massereene Barracks in Antrim, hours before they were due to leave for Afghanistan.
They were ambushed by gunmen firing automatic rifles as they went to take delivery of pizzas they had ordered ahead of a flight to Helmand province.
Virus mix-up by lab could have resulted in Pandemic
It's emerged that virulent H5N1 bird flu was sent out by accident from an Austrian lab last year and given to ferrets in the Czech Republic before anyone realised. As well as the risk of it escaping into the wild, the H5N1 got mixed with a human strain, which might have spawned a hybrid that could unleash a pandemic.
Accidental release of a mixture of live H5N1 and H3N2 viruses could have resulted in dire consequences. While H5N1 doesn't easily infect people, H3N2 viruses do. If someone exposed to a mixture of the two had been simultaneously infected with both strains, he or she could have served as an incubator for a hybrid virus able to transmit easily to and among people.
Israel annexing East Jerusalem
A confidential EU report accuses the Israeli government of using settlement expansion, house demolitions, discriminatory housing policies and the West Bank barrier as a way of "actively pursuing the illegal annexation" of East Jerusalem.
The document says Israel has accelerated its plans for East Jerusalem, and is undermining the Palestinian Authority's credibility and weakening support for peace talks. "Israel's actions in and around Jerusalem constitute one of the most acute challenges to Israeli-Palestinian peace-making," says the document, EU Heads of Mission Report on East Jerusalem. It acknowledges Israel's legitimate security concerns in Jerusalem, but adds: "Many of its current illegal actions in and around the city have limited security justifications."
"Israeli 'facts on the ground' - including new settlements, construction of the barrier, discriminatory housing policies, house demolitions, restrictive permit regime and continued closure of Palestinian institutions - increase Jewish Israeli presence in East Jerusalem, weaken the Palestinian community in the city, impede Palestinian urban development and separate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank," the report says. Baxter admits flu product contained live bird flu virus
The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.
And an official of the World Health Organization's European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International's research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.
"At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present," medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.
"But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau."
The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.
The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn't die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses. CTV.ca
