NATO’s exercises in Georgia genuine provocation

President Dmitry Medvedev has assumed responsibility for negative consequences of NATO’s exercises in Georgia on those who took a decision to conduct these provocative manoeuvres.

nato-georgia

“NATO’s exercises in Georgia are a genuine provocation no matter how we’re been convinced in the contrary,” Medvedev said on Thursday.

“Military exercises can’t be conducted where the war has been recently unleashed,” the Russian president said. “Those who took a decision to conduct them will bear responsibility for their negative consequences,” he added.

“We’ll describe any actions to be considered and interpreted by Tbilisi as encouraging the policy towards re-militarisation of the country and senseless strengthening of the military potential as measures that run counter the six principles of the settlement of the conflict that were coordinated last August,” Medvedev stressed.

Horror as car crashes into royal watchers at Queen's parade

aanslagkon2009

A speeding car hurtled towards an open top bus carrying the Queen of the Netherlands today before smashing into a crowd of people watching the royal parade.

Dutch media has reported that four people were killed as the driver of the black Suzuki appeared to make a deliberate attempt to attack the celebrations.

At least 14 people were injured, some seriously, but the Queen and fellow members of the Dutch royal family accompanying her were not hurt.

The hatchback ploughed through the crowd during a parade to mark the Queen’s Day national holiday in the city of Apeldoorn.

China's 'black jails' uncovered

Local officials in China are using secret "black jails" to imprison citizens who threaten to report corruption to central authorities, an Al Jazeera investigation has revealed.

At one location Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan found a woman being held by three men. As they slammed the door shut, the woman was heard screaming: "You're here to save me! I'm trying to get out!"

Another woman, Shan Yajuan, said that she had previously been held in a "black jail" where she was beaten and shocked with cattle prods.

She had to be released within hours of being imprisoned in order to receive hospital treatment for the injuries she had suffered, she said.

Egypt orders slaughter of all pigs over swine flu

The move immediately provoked resistance from pig farmers. At one large pig farming center just north of Cairo, farmers refused to cooperate with Health Ministry workers who came to slaughter the animals and the workers left without carrying out the government order.

"It has been decided to immediately start slaughtering all the pigs in Egypt using the full capacity of the country's slaughterhouses," Health Minister Hatem el-Gabaly told reporters after a Cabinet meeting with President Hosni Mubarak.

Egypt's overwhelmingly Muslim population does not eat pork due to religious restrictions. But the animals are raised and consumed by the Christian minority, which some estimates put at 10 percent of the population. Health Ministry spokesman Abdel Rahman estimated there were between 300,000-350,000 pigs in Egypt. The Independent

"I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs ...[They] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty."

Parents upset over FEMA coloring book

A page showing fire, severe weather, and flooding, all disasters that can have an impact on a family, especially children. All of these disasters were featured in a coloring book on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's website, designed to help children cope with disasters.

But one page has parents taking the colors away. It's an illustration of the World Trade Center Towers in New York. One of the towers has smoke coming out of it while a plane looks to be heading towards the other.

"They like to color happy pictures not pictures like that I don't think I would like to give my child these kids of pictures to color," said parent Brandy Greer.

Baxter seeks swine flu sample to begin work on vaccine

With world health officials worried about the global outbreak of another deadly virus, Deerfield-based Baxter International Inc. once again finds itself involved in the action.
Baxter confirmed over the weekend that it is working with the World Health Organization on a potential vaccine to curb the deadly swine flu virus that is blamed for scores of deaths in Mexico and has emerged as a threat in the U.S.

However Baxter also produced a Product contained live bird flu virus in februari.

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

“At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.

“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.”

The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

Disgruntled Japanese turn to resurgent communists

Faced with an economy in steep decline, rising unemployment and an uncertain future, a growing number of Japanese are shunning the conservative consensus and turning instead to a new brand of cuddly communism.

While the leaders of Japan's two main political parties battle poor opinion poll ratings and accusations of sleaze, the Japanese Communist party (JCP) has seen its fortunes transformed after years of being dismissed as an irrelevant hangover from the cold war.

In the last 16 months membership has soared to more than 410,000 as the revamped party courts younger voters from the working poor. Of the 14,000 people to have joined since the end of 2007, about a quarter are aged under 30, the party says. That contrasts with the ruling Liberal Democratic party (LDP), whose membership has plummeted from 5 million at its peak to about a million today.

Swine Flu Is Deadly Mix Of Never-Before-Seen Viruses

Swine flu panic is spreading in Mexico and soldiers are patrolling the streets after it was confirmed that human to human transmission is occurring and that the virus is a brand new strain which is seemingly affecting young, healthy people the worst, and that the bug is a never-before-seen intercontinental mixture of human, avian and pig viruses from America, Europe and Asia.

Clues that the virus may be a synthetic creation are already manifesting.

mexican police

According to reports, the virus is  a “never-before-seen form of the flu that combines pig, bird and human viruses” which consists of an intercontinental mix of viruses from North America, Europe and Asia.

“CDC officials detected a virus with a unique combination of gene segments that have not been seen in people or pigs before,” according to an Associated Press report.

The fact that the properties of the strain are completely new, that the virus is spreading from people to people, and that the young and healthy are being hit worst, has disturbing parallels to the deadly 1918 pandemic that killed millions.

Spanish-flu-alberta

It is unclear as to why, if the virus is a brand new strain, that public health officials are so confident programs of mass vaccination, which are already being prepared, would necessarily be effective. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that deadly flu viruses have been concocted in labs and then dispatched with the intention of creating a pandemic. Guilty of Being Poor

The jailers of the 19th century — even in the pre-Civil War South — largely abandoned the practice of imprisoning people for falling into debt as counterproductive and ultimately barbaric. In the 1970s and ’80s, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that incarcerating people who can’t pay fines because of poverty violates the U.S. Constitution.

Apparently, though, some states and county jails never got the memo. Welcome to the debtors’ prisons of the 21st century. “Edwina Nowlin, a poor Michigan resident, was ordered to reimburse a juvenile detention center $104 a month for holding her 16-year-old son,” the New York Times wrote in an editorial.

“When she explained to the court that she could not afford to pay, Ms. Nowlin was sent to prison. The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, which helped get her out last week after she spent 28 days behind bars, says it is seeing more people being sent to jail because they cannot make various court-ordered payments. That is both barbaric and unconstitutional.”

The IMF: Raping The World, One Poor Nation at a Time

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been described as one of the enforcers of globalization.  Nations who receive IMF assistance are often forced to surrender more sovereignty and further open up their borders to international banks and multinational corporations.  Much of their wealth is then sucked dry by foreign predators with its resources and population essentially becoming the collateral for such financial aid.  As a result of the global economic crisis, many more nations are having to turn to the IMF for help.  At the recent G-20 Summit in London, the IMF’s role was expanded and its powers enhanced.  There was little mention of its failed policies and its less then stellar record of effectively promoting development and democracy around the world.  While some talk of reform, the IMF continues to rape the world, one poor nation at a time.

The IMF, along with the World Bank were established as financial sister institutions with both originating out of the 1944 Bretton Woods Agreement.  They are part of the United Nations system.  The IMF was designed to help stabilize the post-World War II international financial system and is the framework for a central bank of issue.  It provides short term financial assistance to nations that qualify, but this is at a very high price.  These countries are placed in an economic straitjacket with the IMF and World Bank working in tandem, dictating large portions of public policy.

UN report discloses Sri Lanka dead

Nearly 6,500 civilians have been killed and 13,000 wounded in fighting in Sri Lanka over the past three months, according to a UN report.

The release of the document on Friday comes two days after Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, said in Brussels he was sending a team of humanitarian experts to the country as part of efforts to "try to do whatever we can to protect the civilian population".

According to the UN figures, 6,432 civilians have been killed in the fighting since 20 January and another 13,946 wounded.

Speaking in New York, Catherine Bragg, the UN assistant secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, said the organisation continued to receive reports that "heavy weaponry is being used ... and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is preventing people form leaving that area and using the civilians as human shields".

Swine Flu, Mexico Lung Illness Heighten Pandemic Risk

Disease trackers are asking U.S. hospitals to help follow a new strain of swine flu and are trying to determine whether it’s related to hundreds of illnesses and 57 deaths in Mexico.

A previously unseen variant of H1N1 swine influenza has sickened at least seven people in California and Texas, the Atlanta-based U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said yesterday. The World Health Organization said 57 people died among more than 800 in the Mexico City region who developed flu-like symptoms in the past month.

mexico fluGlobal health experts are studying whether the U.S. and Mexico illnesses pose a threat of pandemic, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. U.S. hospitals today were asked to collect samples from patients with flu-like symptoms, said William Schaffner, a flu expert at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.

“This has a sense of urgency about it,” Schaffner, chief of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt, said in a telephone interview today. “They are asking us who work in hospitals to go to our emergency rooms and our pediatric wards to gather specimens and start testing them.”

Flu can spread quickly when a new strain emerges, because no one has natural immunity. The so-called 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, which may have killed as many as 50 million people, began when an avian flu virus jumped to people, experts said.

Rape, beatings and bribery: Iraqi police out of control

In the desperate rush to drag Iraq back from civil war, sweeping powers were granted to its new security forces. Human rights workers, MPs and American officials now believe that they are all too often a law unto themselves: admired when they defeat terrorists but also feared for their widespread abuse of power.

iraq police

In this vast and largely unaccountable security apparatus, with almost a million people in uniform, corruption is rife. One of the most common ploys is to arrest innocent people and then charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars for them to be released.

“The Iraqi security forces are out of control,” Abu Aliya said. “If you quarrel with a simple soldier, even one out of uniform, he will arrest you and your family. This is happening everywhere, all the time.”

Amel al-Qaadi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament's Integrity Committee, said that she had met a young male student who had been detained and had confessed to membership of a terrorist cell because his jailers threatened to rape him. “There were many others who told me they were actually raped at the headquarters of various security force units,” she said.

"I will point that out in my appeal, then the Court of Appeal (Hovrätten) will decide if the district court decision should be set aside and the case revisited," Althin said on Thursday.

Crisis as a Means to Building a Global Totalitarian State

As the world financial and economic crisis comes into its own, the Western political leaders and elites are seeking to impress on mankind the idea that this upheaval will end up ‘turning the world into something different’.

Even though the picture of the 'new world order’ remains vague and fuzzy, the main idea is quite clear: A single global government, goes the argument, has to be established if we don’t want general chaos to prevail.

Every now and again, Western politicians mention the need for a ‘new world order’, a ‘new world financial architecture’, or some kind of ‘supranational control’, calling it a ‘New Deal’ for the world. Nicolas Sarkozy was the first to say so, while addressing the UN General Assembly in September 2007 (that is, before the crisis).

During the February 2009 meeting in Berlin convened to prepare the G20 summit, this was echoed by Gordon Brown, who said that a worldwide New Deal was needed. We are conscious, he added, that where the world financial flows were concerned, we would not be able to emerge from this situation with the help of purely national authorities alone. We need the authorities and world watchdogs to make the activities of financial institutions operating in the world markets totally open to us. Both Sarkozy and Brown are protégés of the Rothschilds. Statements made by certain representatives of ‘the global elite’ indicate that the current crisis is being used as a mechanism for provoking some deepening social upheavals that would make mankind – plunged as it is already into chaos and frightened by the ghost of an all-out violence – urge of its own free will that a ‘supranational’ arbitrator with dictatorial powers intervene into the world affairs.

UK public are fast losing patience with thuggish policing

The police have always faced a degree of suspicion from the public. The founders of the Met dressed their men in blue rather than the more military red to underline their civilian role. Keeping the peace is one of society's toughest jobs and one that our police have performed sometimes successfully, sometimes not.

UK-police-strawberry-fair

Unfortunately, the events of the past week will be remembered as a low point. The arrest, early on Monday, of 114 demonstrators in a school outside Nottingham on suspicion of conspiracy to cause criminal damage and aggravated trespass, long before they managed to get anywhere near the Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal-fired power station, smacked of intimidation; the bail restrictions then placed on them draconian and deeply unsettling in a free society. The investigation into leaks at the Home Office that led to the arrest of Damian Green appears to have gone far beyond remit, with officers fishing for emails to Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty.

Chakrabarti acknowledges that "public order policing is a tough and thankless job". That is indisputable, but to succeed the police must have the trust of the public. It shows just how far we are from that ideal when officers are being spotted at demonstrations with their ID tags deliberately obscured. No police force should tolerate such brutish arrogance.

UK police

This aggression is no doubt linked to the government's nasty habit of writing laws that prefer the convenience of security forces to the rights of free citizens. But the police are public servants, not government enforcers. Their job is to keep the peace, not clear the streets of dissent

Envoys walk out of U.N. anti-racism conference

Dozens of international envoys walked out during a speech by Iran's president Monday as he accused Israel of having a "racist government" and committing genocide.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the West of making "an entire nation homeless under the pretext of Jewish suffering ... in order to establish a totally racist government in occupied Palestine."

Many delegates at the controversial U.N. anti-racism conference in Geneva, Switzerland, cheered his words as a minority of diplomats -- mostly from Europe -- collected their papers and briefcases and left the room. Cameras at the scene showed empty seats where delegates from France, Finland and Denmark had been sitting.

The British and Spanish delegations also walked out, both countries' foreign affairs divisions confirmed.  CNN.com

Crisis? Bank of America profit triples to $4.2bn

Bank of America on Monday reported net income more than tripled to $4.2bn in the first three months of the year, well ahead of analysts’ expectations, as mortgage refinancing and commercial banking revenues boosted its performance.

Financial Times

Also see The Great American Jobs Scam on pushhamburger.com: Bank of America, for example, received two "job retention" subsidies from New York City, in 1993 and in 2004. The 1993 subsidy was given to induce the bank to move employees into the World Trade Center following the 1993 bombing. In exchange for at least $18 million in benefits, the bank promised to retain at least 1,700 jobs in Tower One for 15 years. Instead, it laid off at least 800 people in 1997 after merging with Security Pacific National Bank. This was such a severe drop in employment that the city cancelled the subsidy in 1998, but didn't require Bank of America to refund any past subsidies.

US tortured 2 suspects with Waterboarding 266 Times

C.I.A. interrogators used waterboarding, the near-drowning technique that top Obama administration officials have described as illegal torture, 266 times on two key prisoners from Al Qaeda, far more than had been previously reported.

The C.I.A. officers used waterboarding at least 83 times in August 2002 against Abu Zubaydah, according to a 2005 Justice Department legal memorandum. Abu Zubaydah has been described as a Qaeda operative.

waterboarding

A former C.I.A. officer, John Kiriakou, told ABC News and other news media organizations in 2007 that Abu Zubaydah had undergone waterboarding for only 35 seconds before agreeing to tell everything he knew.

The 2005 memo also says that the C.I.A. used waterboarding 183 times in March 2003 against Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the self-described planner of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The New York Times reported in 2007 that Mr. Mohammed had been barraged more than 100 times with harsh interrogation methods (torture), causing C.I.A. officers to worry that they might have crossed legal limits and to halt his questioning. But the precise number and the exact nature of the interrogation method was not previously known.

The next stage of the crisis will result from a Chinese dream. Indeed, what on earth can China be dreaming of, caught – if we listen to Washington – in the “dollar trap” of its 1,400-billion worth of USD-denominated debt? If we believe US leaders and their scores of media experts, China is only dreaming of remaining a prisoner, and even of intensifying the severity of its prison conditions by buying always more US T-Bonds and Dollars.

In fact, everyone knows what prisoners dream of? They dream of escaping of course, of getting out of prison. LEAP/E2020 has therefore no doubt that Beijing is now constantly striving to find the means of disposing of, as early as possible, the mountain of « toxic » assets which US Treasuries and Dollars have become, keeping the wealth of 1,300 billion Chinese citizens prisoner. In this issue of the GEAB (N°34), our team describes the “tunnels and galleries” Beijing has secretively begun to dig in the global financial and economic system in order to escape the « dollar trap » by the end of summer 2009. Once the US has defaulted on its debt, it will be time for the « everyman for himself » rule to prevail in the international system, in line with the final statement of the London G20 Summit which reads as a « chronicle of a geopolitical dislocation », as explained by LEAP/E2020 in this issue of the Global Europe Anticipation Bulletin.

Israel stands ready to bomb Iran's nuclear sites

The Israeli military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Iran's nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.

Among the steps taken to ready Israeli forces for what would be a risky raid requiring pinpoint aerial strikes are the acquisition of three Airborne Warning and Control (AWAC) aircraft and regional missions to simulate the attack.

Two nationwide civil defence drills will help to prepare the public for the retaliation that Israel could face.

“Israel wants to know that if its forces were given the green light they could strike at Iran in a matter of days, even hours. They are making preparations on every level for this eventuality. The message to Iran is that the threat is not just words,” one senior defence official told The Times.

Barack Obama discloses Bush 'torture' methods including use of insects

Waterboarding2.jpg image by bobhiggins

Certain aspects of the documents are redacted – including the names of CIA officials – but the four memos written by Bush lawyers as a guideline for interrogators offer an unprecedented look inside the methods used as the perpetrators of 9/11 and their cohorts were hunted down.

Water-boarding, which is banned by international human rights law, was one of the 'torture' methods used.

The Justice Department memo dated May 10, 2005, admitted that "we find that the use of the waterboard constitutes a threat of imminent death". "It creates in the subject the uncontrollable physiological sensation that the subject is drowning."

However, it said, "in the absence of prolonged mental harm, no severe mental pain or suffering would have been inflicted, and the use of these procedures would not constitute torture within the meaning of the statute".

Other methods included placing an insect in a "confinement box", was used as a tactic against Abu Zubaydah, the first top al-Qaeda member to be seized. Interrogators planned to tell Zubaydah they were putting a stinging inset in the box but it would actually be harmless "such as a caterpillar".

In "walling", the interrogator was allowed to pull a detainee towards him then slam him against a "flexible false wall" in a technique designed to create a loud sound and shock the prisoner. A detainee may be walled once to make a point or 20 to 30 times when interrogation required "a more significant response to a question".

Sleep deprivation methods included shackling prisoners in a standing position for two or three days, and in one case for 180 hours.

Dutch Publication: Prince Bernhard was deeply involved in weapons trade

Although no big surprise for those who have familiarised themselves with the subject, the conclusions of a recently published book on prince Bernhard’s activities should work like a hot cup of coffee for the drowsy and intoxicated.

In the past week the publication ‘the prince can sell me more nonsense’ (as of yet not translated to English) gained some Dutch mainstream media attention. Author and historian Gerard Aalders, senior researcher at the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation, has enveloped himself in research concerning Bilderberg-founder Bernhard von Lippe-Biesterfeld. He emerges with some sobering conclusions about the German prince and his international dealings. A bitter pill to swallow for those who are in the habit of surrendering their will to royal bloodlines. In an interview with the Dutch Quote magazine on April 3, Aalders elaborates on the necessity of his book:

‘This is the indispensable counterbalance to all those welcome stories about prince Bernhard. (…). This book covers not even 10 percent of the nastiness surrounding Bernhard. The rest is locked up safely behind closed doors. There are many icebergs under as many tips.’

Although there is some sense in the general public of what the prince was up to, he is usually characterised as a somewhat corrupt but nevertheless lovable scoundrel. Aalders asks himself: How does a man who lies, scams, accepts bribes, cheats on his wife, serves only his own interests, consorts with unreliable individuals, arms deals, corrupts ministers, continuously spreads false stories about himself, remain so extremely popular for so long?’   More on infowars.com and The Guardian

Sir David Attenborough Calls for Depopulation

The broadcaster Sir David Attenborough has become a patron of a group seeking to cut the growth in human population. On joining the Optimum Population Trust, Sir David said growth in human numbers was "frightening". Sir David has been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce the number of people on Earth to protect wildlife. The Trust, which accuses governments and green groups of observing a taboo on the topic, say they are delighted to have Sir David as a patron.

Sir David, one of the BBC's longest-standing presenters, has been making documentaries on the natural world and conservation for more than half a century. In a statement issued by the Optimum Population Trust he is quoted as saying: "I've never seen a problem that wouldn't be easier to solve with fewer people, or harder, and ultimately impossible, with more."

Ronald Reagan was a secret FBI informant

Ronald Reagan's acting career hit a lull in the late 1940s. Despite parts in minor films such as The Voice of the Turtle and That Hagen Girl, he became increasingly preoccupied with his more important role during Hollywood's "Red Scare" as head of the Screen Actors Guild. It was revealed last week that the future President played another role as well: as a secret FBI informant, code name T-10. According to an article published in the San Jose Mercury News, documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act indicate that Reagan and his first wife, Actress Jane Wyman, provided federal agents with the names of actors they believed were Communist sympathizers.

The FBI papers report that despite his work as an informant, Reagan disagreed with some of the tactics of organizations like the House Un- American Activities Committee. In one FBI interview, Reagan takes issue with a group of actors and producers attempting to fire any alleged Reds. Protests Reagan: "Do they expect us to constitute ourselves as a little FBI of our own and determine just who is a Commie and who isn't?"

DNA pioneer Alec Jeffreys: drop innocent from database

The inventor of genetic fingerprinting, Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, today warns that the government is putting at risk public support for the DNA national database by holding the genetic details of hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

Jeffreys, whose pioneering discoveries revolutionised police investigation techniques, condemned the government for leaving innocent people "branded as criminals" by its insistence on keeping the details of everyone arrested, regardless of whether they are later convicted.

He said he was left "almost speechless" by reports that the government planned to respond to a recent European court ruling - that storing innocent people's genetic details broke their right to privacy - by simply removing their profiles from the database but keeping the original DNA samples.

In an interview with the Guardian, he said: "I have significant concerns there [about the size of the database]. That database is currently populated by an unknown number of entirely innocent people. It is not possible to get an accurate number but it appears to be hundreds of thousands.

Project Camelot Interviews David Icke

This is not an interview specifically about the information he's researched and presents so lucidly in his famous long presentations, and in his many books - all of which are packed with references, anecdotes and encyclopaedic detail. It's more about the man behind his mission; what makes him tick, and what keeps him going; the source of his inner resolve; and, notably - anyone who mistakes David for a doomsayer, take note - his vision for Planet Earth: "The idea that this might not all have a successful outcome", he told us, "Never occurs to me."

Amazon accused of anti-gay move

The internet retailer Amazon has found itself at the centre of a censorship row after it decided to remove a number of so-called adult books from its online charts.

Over the weekend, thousands of books have lost their sales rank – the number that Amazon uses to show how well one title sells compared with another – as the company apparently seeks to make its bestseller lists more family friendly.

But thousands of users have voiced concern after the seemingly random application of the new rules not only affected a number of high-profile authors, including Annie Proulx, EM Forster and Jeanette Winterson, but also led to thousands of gay and lesbian titles being stripped of their sales rank, regardless of their sexual content.

After being bombarded with angry emails from authors and readers, Amazon blamed a "glitch" in its system, which it said last night was being fixed.

But just a few days ago, the company told complainants books classed as containing "adult material" had been prevented from appearing in some searches and bestseller lists "in consideration of our entire customer base". Yesterday a spokeswoman denied there was ever any such "policy".

EU trains a new diplomatic corps - without waiting for Lisbon Treaty

Five hundred and thirty staff from the European Commission have already begun training to build a "shared diplomatic culture and an esprit de corps" for the EU's putative External Action Service (EEAS).

Irish voters blocked the Lisbon Treaty, which provides the legal basis for a new Euro-diplomatic corps, when they rejected the renamed EU Constitution in a referendum last June. The disclosure that the Commission has simply pressed on regardless and begun training the euro-diplomats infuriated Irish politicians. Ireland is expected to hold a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty in October.

Declan Ganley, an Irish campaigner for a "No" vote, said: "It is cause for serious concern that, by implementing the Lisbon Treaty, EU institutions are manifesting outright contempt for democracy." Privately, EU officials are aware of the sensitivity of going ahead with training a euro-diplomatic corps. "We are trying to push the envelope as far as we can within the current environment," said one official in "European Voice", a Brussels weekly.

More on the Telegraph and EUROPEAN EXTERNAL ACTION SERVICE: “Finally, the Foreign Affairs Minister will be in charge of a diplomatic service with delegations in almost 125 countries. The draft Constitution provides for a European External Action Service to be set up to assist the Minister in his or her functions.”

“Seven Signs of Terrorism”

It does not matter that al-Qaeda is not a threat to the US homeland — you need to prepare for a terrorist attack regardless, according to PrepareMetro KC, a website put together by the Greater Kansas City region’s Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee, which is funded by the Department of Homeland Security.

“Terrorist operations begin with extensive planning,” warns the federally funded website. “You can help prevent and detect terrorism — and other types of crime — by watching out for suspicious activities and reporting them to the proper authorities. Many of these activities, in and of themselves, may not indicate criminal activity. Taken together, however, they may be a cause for concern. If you observe people acting suspiciously, don’t hesitate to contact local law enforcement.”

Note our emphasis. It’s not so much about scary guys in turbans half way around the world in caves or hiding out in remote villages mired in the 16th Century. It’s about criminals engaged in “suspicious” behavior. According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and PrepareMetro KC, crime is a form of terrorism.

Naxalite rebels kill Indian troops

Suspected Maoist rebels have killed 10 paramilitary troops and injured 11 others in an ambush in central India ahead of next week's general elections, police say.

More than 125 Maoists, armed with AK-47s, attacked Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) patrolling Chintagufa, a forested area about 445 km south of Raipur in Chattisgarh state.

"It was an ambush. Ten CRPF men, including a deputy commandant, were martyred and eight other personnel received bullet wounds in a three-hour-long gun battle," Rahul Sharma, the local superintendent of police, said on Saturday.

The Maoists, who are very active across much of India, claim to be fighting on behalf of peasants, farmers and labourers, demanding land and jobs. They are active in almost half of India's 28 states.

A Dutch TV jury has found Osama bin Laden not guilty of the Sept. 11 attacks.

n the conclusion Wednesday night to the show "Devil's Advocate" on Dutch public broadcaster Nederland 2, the jury of two men and three women, along with the studio audience, ruled there was no proof bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.

Video messages: Osama bin Laden in videos released October 2004 (l) and 2007 (r)

The show features star defense attorney Gerard Spong standing up for some of the world's worst criminals.
In the latest show, Spong was able to convince the jury that bin Laden's connection to Sept. 11 was a product of "Western propaganda." The jury also ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove bin Laden was the real head of terrorist network al-Qaida.

The show is certain to provide further ammunition in the already heated Dutch debate over immigration and the country's large Muslim minority. The Netherlands saw a sharp rise in anti-immigration and anti-Islamic sentiment after the 2004 murder of Dutch director Theo Van Gogh by a Muslim extremist.

Obama’s Plan To “Geo-Engineer” The Planet Mirrors CFR Policy Documents

The Obama administration’s announcement that it is to consider radical planetary “geo-engineering”, such as “shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays”, exactly mirrors recent publications penned by the elite Council On Foreign Relations.

Yesterday the Associated Press reported that the Obama administration has held discussions regarding the possibility of “geo-engineering” the earth’s climate to counter global warming.

The AP report states that Obama’s science advisor John Holdren is pushing for radical terra forming programs to be explored such as creating an “artificial volcano”. Despite Holdren’s admission that such measures could have “grave side effects,” he added that, “we might get desperate enough to want to use it.” Such ideas exactly mirror those put forth by the CFR in previous years.

In briefing notes (PDF) published in May 2008 from the CFR’s Geo-engineering: Workshop on Unilateral Planetary Scale Reengineering, the elite internationalist group lays out the exact same radical ideas now being touted by the Obama administration.
